Here's some more info about The Groove Council taken off thier Facebook page.
THE GROOVE COUNCIL is the band to catch when you need some funky
horn-driven R & B with that old school Detroit soul sound. Every gig
is a party - hosted by lead singer Kathleen Murray! The 9-piece band
features 4 horns and a smokin’ rhythm section. You’ll hear some of your
favorite soul classics, a few tasty B-sides, and some new tunes that
have that old-school sound – all with that distinctive Groove Council
influence. You'll want to be there when the Council is in-session!
The Council pulls together a group of musicians with assorted
backgrounds from all around the Detroit area (and even Canada!) to make
up an impressive combined musical resume that spans decades. Well, most
of the council members, that is. You see, the band’s remarkable lead
singer, Kathleen Murray, is new to the Detroit music scene. She began
performing just five years ago and in that short time has already made a
name for herself.
Over the past five years, the band has become known for delivering dance-inducing soul music with an infectious groove. When you put Kathleen’s powerful vocals over a cookin’ rhythm section and layer on those tasty horns, you get a delicious blend of soul, R&B, and funk that keeps audiences coming back for more. There’s a genuine excitement that radiates from the stage and embraces the crowd. It’s all part of what makes the band a favorite at area festivals and keeps them in-demand at local clubs. The band was awarded the 2011 Detroit Music Award for Outstanding R&B Artist/Group and was nominated again in 2012. Singer Kathleen Murray has earned Detroit Music Award nominations for Outstanding Blues/R&B Vocalist in both 2011 and 2012. In addition to frequent appearances in and around Detroit, the Groove Council is also the back-up band for saxophone legend and Silver Bullet member Alto Reed for local appearances. This included Alto’s AllStar Concert at the Fillmore where the band also played behind music legend Mitch Ryder and Grand Funk alumni Mark Farner.
